Shopping in Linz
Despite strong competition from the surrounding communities, Linz has become established as a "shopping city with flair". Targeted advertising measures have stemmed the exodus of spending power and thus strengthened spending power with a local impact.
Major commercial investments, such as the redesign of the Passage City Center and the Atrium City Center or the extension of Intersport Eybl, have additionally made Linz more attractive as a shopping city.
In keeping with this, the city of Linz has taken measures to create parking space. In the city center today there are about 6,500 underground garage parking spaces (900 more are under construction or in planning) and 6,000 metered short-term parking spaces.
In comparison with other Austrian cities, with 237,000 visitors every week the main shopping street of Linz, Landstraße, takes second place after Vienna/Mariahilferstraße.
The Linz City – The Most Attractive Shopping Center in Upper Austria
The capital of the Federal Province of Upper Austria offers excellent opportunities for shopping. The Landstraße in the heart of the city is not only a representative promenade, but also the number one shopping mile. The shops here invite window shopping, and three shopping centers in the city center – Passage Linz, Arkade Taubenmarkt and Atrium City Center – offer a selection for every taste. There are world brand flagship stores as well as small shops, where shoppers can take their time browsing. A lively gastronomy scene also awaits visitors.
It is also worth taking a look into the side streets of Landstraße, such as Spittelwiese, Bethlehemstraße, Bischofstraße or Herrenstraße. There one finds the kind of specialized shops operated with great devotion, which are not to be found in shopping centers outside the city.
When service, diversity and urban flair are coupled with exquisite entertainment, the result is an ideal combination of shopping and experience. Several times a year, events in the city center offer a unique shopping experience with an abundance of attractions and action in the Linz City. For instance, the long shopping nights in May and September, integrated in an attractive event, are ideal for night owls, drawing thousands of visitors into the city.
The Currency of the Linz City
The Linz City Gift Certificate has become the currency of the city center of Linz. With an annual turnover of € 3,5 million, the Linz City Gift Certificate is one of the most successful of its kind. It is no wonder, since customers can use it for shopping in over 300 companies in the Linz City, choosing as they desire from a unique diversity of branches and an enormous selection of products – while enjoying the special atmosphere of the city at the same time.
