The NUTS region Linz-Wels is the leading Austrian economic area, generating a gross value added of EUR 29 billion. The Upper Austrian capital thus remains the country's number one economic champion. Compared to other regions in Austria, Linz and its metropolitan area also show high growth rates in terms of the number of active companies, the labour force and the employment rate.

The key figures Zahlstadt Linz 2023 report presents interesting figures, data and facts from Linz's urban research on the political goals of sustainable development on an economic, social and ecological level. The Digital Linz Programme is a strategic initiative aimed at driving digitalisation in Linz to secure the city as a sustainable place to live and work. The programme is coordinated by a core team of city experts led by City Director Ulrike Huemer and supported by a 'Digital Board' of specialists.
The programme, adopted by the Linz City Council on 4 March 2021, covers eight key areas:
- Arts, culture and leisure
- Industry
- Start-ups and the innovation community
- Digital public services
- Digital education and research
- New worlds of work
- Local economy
- Digital city administration.
The aim is to develop solutions that focus on people's needs and position Linz as an intelligent smart city.

- The Upper Austrian Economic Development Agency is a driver of innovation and a point of contact for tailor-made solutions in the areas of investment and innovation. It actively shapes economic and research policy.
- Regionalmanagement OÖ GmbH (RMOÖ) is the competence centre for regional development with the aim of strengthening the attractiveness, quality of life, competitiveness and cross-border cooperation of the Upper Austrian regions.
- Young Economy represents the interests of 120,000 self-employed Austrians between the ages of 18 and 40. As a strong community, it provides the necessary support.
