The new slogan of the city is programme: Linz is where you can find beautiful stucco facades from earlier times side by side with interesting new buildings of appealing architectural styles with futuristic lighting.
Linz, the city on the Danube, has become the pulsating centre between East and West during the last decades.
No other Austrian city has experienced such a tremendous change like the capital of Upper Austria. The result is a modern city which offers its inhabitants and its visitors a perfect place to be, with large green areas and good air quality.
The city is a stage, all year long. Music, theatre, film, and art – ranging from old classics to Media Art – Linz is open, innovative and highly diverse; a city that has something to offer for any taste.

Stillness, Steels and Stars
Culture is alive in this European City of Culture 2009, which provides a lively and surprising choice of attractions all year round. Yet visitors in search of peace and quiet will find calm refuge in Linz’s many churches and also in traditional Christmas markets in the old market square and on Pfarrplatz, blissfully devoid of piped music. Some time for reflection and relaxation can be spent at exhibitions and Advent concerts.
